Report From San Luis Obispo

The San Luis Obispo (SLO) County (California) candlelight vigil for the 2,000,000 citizens confined in U.S. prisons gave the activists of our county an excellent opportunity to continue educating the community about this critical issue.

Organizers Jo-D and Tom-E Dunbar stopped quickly in front of the SLO County Courthouse to unload informational materials. These included our Human Rights '95 exhibit, candles, flyers and a table.

Even though less than ten patriots stayed to hold candles, many more took a moment to read through our Human Rights '95 exhibit and grab a few flyers.

Santa Barbara TV station, KCOY, conducted an interview with organizer Jo-D Dunbar. The piece appeared on the 11 p.m. news and began with the words, "What the group lacked in numbers, they made up for with the strength of their message." The reporter did a wonderful job gathering film images of the burning candles and the HR95 exhibit. The 15-second slot included a strong statement by Jo-D.

A reporter from a local radio station, KCEV, spent some time speaking with our group. He called back the next day and conducted a telephone interview. This interview was played during the 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. news hours.
