Donny Easely

My name is Donny Easley. I am 45 years old. Before my arrest I was a heavy equipment operator. I had owned my own excavating business for 22 years and had operated heavy equipment for 26 years.

I am a first time drug offender with no criminal history. I received a 135 month sentence (11 years and 3 months) for cultivating marijuana.

I have been married for 26 years and have two sons. Mike is 25 and Donny is 23. I have two grandsons, Cody and Ryan. They will both be 4 years old this coming July. They were 1 1/2 when I was arrested. I've been in prison for 25 months and have only seen my family once since my arrest.

I was sentenced on 2212 plants that were never confirmed to be marijuana. These plants were only 2 to 3 inches tall and were pulled and burned on the spot by law officers. They were not my plants and I don't believe they were marijuana either, but even if they were, would it be worth 135 months of a man's life? What about his family? What about the taxpayers who are paying billions of dollars for a drug that has never caused even one death. This is not a war on Drugs, this is a war on the American people and it is time to end it!!!
