Lucas and his son Benito

30 years - Conspiracy

My name is Lucas Lopez and was a simple fisherman until my son was brought into a drug conspiracy by a friend who had become a confidential informant.

My son Benito's friend told him that he needed a boat for a job. Benito would not give him the boat, but he'd do the job himself. I went with my son to meet with U.S. Customs agents who wanted to use my boat.

We were told to go to Tampa to look for a boat that we never did find. When we returned, we were both arrested for conspiracy to import cocaine.

We were both sentenced to 30 years in federal prison.

I am 69 years old and my son is 30.
