15 Years, Marijuana Conspiracy

Teddy Solano, prisoner of the drug war
I was sentenced to 15 years for conspiracy to distribute marijuana. I was a mule in the conspiracy and I transported money and marijuana. I was the kingpin's girlfriend (one among many) and was charged with the total weight of marijuana for the entire conspiracy. Many people were arrested in our case. There was great disparity in the sentencing, ranging from no time to 30 years, which was twice as long as the kingpin.

The majority of my codefendants are out of prison now. I could have received a sentence reduction if I would have cooperated with federal agents, but because of loyalty to my boyfriend, the kingpin, I could not do it. I loved him. Neither did I want to hurt the other people. Do I have regrets? Yes and no, but it's too late.

As of December 3, 2001 I will have been in prion ten years. I have no hope of getting out early through the court system. Up unil now, I haven't done anything to help myself and others except praying for God to change things. But after receiving this issue of the Razor Wire with the petition that ask's the president to release us, I decided that I was going to join the fight.

I mailed out more than 50 petitions so far. I am waiting for names and addresses of congress persons and others so I can write them. It breaks my heart when I think of all the lives that are wasted in these prisons for no good reason. Please let me know what else I can do to help. Thank you and God bless you for all that you are doing.
